Warrant articles seek funds for improved town communications

March 27, 2009

Voters at Annual Town Meeting on May 2 will consider two warrant articles to improve communications within the town. One article would authorize up to $7,500 for an emergency contact system. The other would provide $12,000 for an improved town website. The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved the addition of both articles at its March 17 meeting.

The firm Connect-CTY has submitted the lowest bid to develop the emergency contact system. It sister company, Connect-ED, already operates the schools’ communication system.

Virtual Town Hall of Maynard would create Harvard’s new website. Town Administrator Tim Bragan noted that the town has maxed out the content capacity of its current site.

Selectmen Chairman Leo Blair suggested that the town may need a technology advisory committee soon to advise in decisions such as these. Its role would be comparable, he said, to the current Energy Advisory Committee.
