A Harvard resident who was chairman of the Mass. High Tech. Council was one of three people who met with President Ronald Reagan during his visit to the Boston area. The purpose of the group’s visit with the president was to “bring high tech issues to the president’s attention.” Following the presentation by the group, Reagan issued a statement saying he would “promote the establishment of a nonpartisan commission on industrial competitiveness.”
A member of the Harvard Peace Group was one of 12 delegates elected to participate in the Citizens’ Lobby for the Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign in Washington, D.C.

Wholesale prices of home heating oil jumped $.20 per gallon in one month, a cost oil companies passed on to consumers. As a result, the cost of home heating oil rose to between $1.18 and $1.25 per gallon.
A representative of a local oil company speculated that the previous low prices for home heating oil had been caused by “a worldwide oil glut.” He said that wholesalers, anticipating even lower prices, did not want to buy much ahead and be “stuck with large supplies of expensive oil.” Then, when cold weather hit, there was not enough oil on hand to meet demand, which drove the price up. He went on to say that the previous year’s warmer-than-normal winter had led to “poor planning on the part of oil people.”
