Sam Dorward led the pack to a first-place finish in the 1000m with Max Flaton behind him.
Saturday, Jan. 24, marked the final dual meet for the Bromfield boys track team. The meet against Oakmont ended in a loss for the Bromfield Trojans. Oakmont came out on top with a score of 51 to Bromfield’s 40.
Junior Garrett Kistler placed second, only two inches behind Oakmont’s junior Matthew Lahtinen in the shot put, with a throw of 37 feet 2 inches, while Bromfield senior Kevin Molinaro placed third, throwing 31 feet. Molinaro also placed third in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 4 inches, a jump that ties the current school record.
The running events started with the 2-mile race, in which Bromfield juniors Max Flaton and Tyler Papazian placed first and third, with times of 10:39 and 11:29, respectively. The 1,000-meter run gave the Bromfield team a morale boost when senior Sam Dorward and freshman Nick Kronauer captured the first two spots, scoring eight needed points for the team. Seniors Nick Cleary and Lewie Alfano sprinted and hurdled their way to a second and a third place, with times of 10 and 10.4 seconds.
Despite the efforts of the team to close its season with a win, Oakmont came out on top. Team captain Ben Waldman spoke about the meet: “We were disappointed about the loss, of course, but we’re proud of the strong effort we gave and are looking forward to racing [Oakmont] again at the league meet next week.”
The league meet will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4.
