The waning weeks of November have been busy ones for the Department of Public Works.
Wayne Roofing of Norwood began work on the DPW building’s roof this week. After overseeing an emergency measure to temporarily tarp the existing roof in August, DPW Director Rich Nota put the project out to bid. Nota said that the slowing economy resulted in a very competitive price for the new roof. Wayne Roofing began the project by stripping off the old 1.5-inch insulation to make way for the far more energy-efficient 5-inch insulation that will be installed later this week.
Across town on a section of Fairbank Street and Oak Hill Road, DPW workers are installing a new water main to replace the existing pipe, which is more than 70 years old. Nota commented that the work is being done in-house to save money. The main work will wrap up soon and be finished in the spring, the slated timeframe for putting the new main online.
