The Bromfield girls soccer team advanced to the district finals after a 1–0 win over Maynard last Wednesday night.
Fourteen minutes into the first half of the game, Elise Bilodeau sent a low cross toward Maddie Darden, who swiftly directed the ball into the net. Neither team scored for the remainder of the game, despite strong efforts by both sides.
The game became more aggressive in the second half. With 11 minutes on the clock, players migrated toward the Bromfield goal; however, Bromfield’s strong defense held Maynard off despite several attempts at a goal.
Goalie Ali Martini demonstrated her skills as the game neared its finish and spectators rose to their feet. With eight minutes left, Martini blocked another shot at the goal. As cheers from energized Bromfield fans grew louder, the ball traveled back to the offensive side.
With less than one minute left in the game, Maynard made one final attempt at a goal, but Martini made a confident save to secure the Bromfield win.
The Trojan women ended their extraordinary season last Sunday with a 1–0 loss against Sutton in the district finals.
