The Harvard Friends of the Arts (HFOA) has recently developed its 2008–2009 season calendar. A few specific dates are yet to be determined, but we have a very eclectic program this year. Most programs will be free of charge and held at Volunteers Hall in the library.
Saturday, Nov. 15: Renowned Irish harpist and singer Aine Minogue
Saturday, Jan. 10 (in collaboration with the Warner Free Lecture Series): Folk and classical improvisational pianist Jacqueline Schwab
February: Old-Time Radio Theatre
March: Harvard Town Talent Show—a juried talent show which will showcase the wide range of talent in our small town.
May: Dance choreographer Marta Renzi’s Project Company at Fruitlands Museum
HFOA is a subcommittee of the Friends of the Harvard Public Library. The mission of the HFOA is to encourage, stimulate and promote high-quality, diverse professional and amateur creative talents that will enhance the quality of life of our community. We want to create a central gathering place and community resource where people support the transformative power of artist expression. Our first season’s sponsored events included: a children’s concert and musical petting zoo, concerts by Joy Kills Sorrow and April Verch, and the theatrical presentation of A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters.
As always, we owe heartfelt thanks to our steadfast volunteers: Bob Eiland, Joan Eliyesil, Judy Wong, Ken Nygren, Di Hall, Larry Hayes, Marty Green, Maureen Remeika, Bill Cordner, and Mark Hastings, without whose support these performances could not take place. Our events would not be possible without the support of the Harvard library trustees and the library staff. We hope residents will come out and enjoy these great programs.
