The Mass. Government Land Bank, the precursor to MassDevelopment, announced it was ready to move ahead with the development of 4,489 acres on Devens. The announcement was made after the state Office of Environmental Affairs issued a certificate of compliance indicating that the Land Bank had “met all the requirements put forth under the Mass. Environmental Policy Act.”
The School Committee decided there was no room in Harvard’s schools to educate students who live on Devens. The superintendent said there was no room in the elementary school, although it might be possible to “take a limited number of Devens students into the Bromfield School.”

An editorial commented: “The town center floats in a sea of septic uncertainty. Septic problems literally underlie every proposed alteration to the area around the Common….”
It went on to ask: “Isn’t it time that the town finally started looking for a blanket solution to the problems…?
