Harvard native Lynn Jennings, a Bromfield alum and a graduate of Princeton University, took sixth place in the women’s 10,000-meter run at the World Championships of Track and Field in Rome.
The town of Harvard sponsored four children—from Bolivia, Egypt, Honduras, and Kenya—through the Foster Parents Plan.
Harvard’s representative to Congress, Chet Atkins, D-Acton, mailed copies of the U.S. Surgeon General’s report on AIDS to all households in his district—more than 200,000. He called AIDS “the modern plague” and said he thought it could become the “deadliest epidemic in history” if nothing was done to control it.

Lynn Jennings made the U.S. Olympic track team and competed at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. (She later competed in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics, bringing home a bronze medal in the 10,000-meter event in 1992.)
The property tax rate for 1989 was set at $8.20 per thousand.
A member of the Planning Board, who proposed a bylaw change that would allow small houses on undersized lots under certain conditions, said his proposal was intended to augment whatever affordable housing plans the town developed. But, he said at the meeting where he presented his idea, “I don’t know if either this proposal or affordable housing will ever get off the ground.”.
