Thanks and sayonara

August 8, 2008

I want to thank the 2008 Fourth of July Committee for another fantastic Independence Day celebration this summer. This year the weather was against us, but we persevered. The carbon-free music festival was a huge success, showcasing many talented Harvard musicians. Although the fog dropped down just before the fireworks were shot, I heard a lot of comments about how interesting and artistic the fireworks were this year. Luckily, the rain cleared away for the flag raising ceremony and field events.

I want to specifically extend my gratitude to the following people for their contributions this year: Kathy Brule, Ed Carter, Lori Daniels, Tom Daniels, Piali De, Joan Eliyesil, Vince Farrell, Deb Ferguson, Shannon Kelley, John Lee, Ian Miller, Mary Ellen Miller, Steve Miller, Steve Peisch, Vanessa Perini, Pat Riemitis, Lisa Silagyi, Amy Stoller, Bromfield a cappella group, the Lions Club, HAA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Acton Fife and Drum Corps, Martha Brooks and her Bromfield graphic arts class, Bizzy Herbolsheimer and the beach staff, the Fire Department, the Police Department, the Department of Public Works, Town Hall, the selectmen and Julie Doucet. Thanks also to everyone who helped out with T-shirt sales, with field events, and even driving honorees and marching in the parade—all of their names are too numerous to mention.

This is my last year as chairwoman of the Fourth of July Committee. I’ve really enjoyed the last two years leading this wonderful group. It is my hope that someone will step forward to chair the committee next year; I will be available to help.

Kathy Farrell, chairwoman
2008 Fourth of July Committe
