Caught in the middle

August 29, 2008

I returned Saturday evening from the emergency room at Emerson Hospital and read your newspaper with great interest. My sister, a longtime Harvard resident, was caught in the tangle of the town’s issue with ambulance coverage. She was forced to wait, in excruciating abdominal pain and violent vomiting, in her driveway while the Harvard ambulance crew waited for another crew to come from Ayer. Fortunately, the outcome was satisfactory in this case; but for another patient, the consequence might be dire.
