Tuesday, June 17: Police found nothing unusual upon investigating a report that came in at 10:09 p.m. about the sound of a mechanical whining noise at an East Bare Hill Road residence. After doing a random license plate check of a car traveling on Ayer Road at 10:47 p.m., police discovered the vehicle was not registered, stopped the car and had it towed, and issued a summons to the driver.
Wednesday, June 18: At 6:35 p.m. a caller provided police with the license plate number of a car that had sped past him on the road. Sergeant Jim Babu went to the Harvard home where the car was registered to speak to the owner about the incident, but found no one at home so left a message for the owner to contact him at the station. Only minor damage was reported after one vehicle backed into another at the soccer field on Lancaster County Road at 7:13 p.m. At 7:29 p.m. an off-duty Stow police officer reported seeing a vehicle with emergency lights flashing being driven erratically in Harvard. Police located the car and found it was a Stow firefighter on his way to a fire call.
Thursday, June 19: A caller on Old Shirley Road notified the dispatcher at 7:30 a.m. that there were two small children playing in the road. When police found the children, ages 3 and 5, and took them home, they discovered that the youngsters had left the house while their mother was sleeping. At 8:28 a.m. police received a complaint about a truck containing scull boats blocking traffic on Woodside Road. They located the driver and asked him to move the truck. An officer responded to a call from a Westcott Road residence at 10:02 p.m. reporting the smell of something burning. The officer did not notice the smell himself, and did not find anything burning. As the officer was returning from Westcott Road at 10:21 p.m., he called the station to report the license plate number of a car that he said was being driven erratically and had nearly sideswiped him. Police located the car and arrested the under-age driver for operating under the influence. The arrest led police to investigate a party on Mettacomett Path at 10:45 p.m., where they charged a woman at that residence with furnishing alcohol to minors. The woman will be summonsed.
Friday, June 20: At 3:02 a.m. a caller reported seeing three youths out walking near Poor Farm and Ayer roads. Police took three 14-year-olds—who said they were just out for a walk—into protective custody and later released them to their parents. At 10:27 a.m. police received a report that $8,000 worth of copper wiring had been stolen from behind the Department of Public Works garage. The incident remains under investigation. A caller on Barton Road complained to police at 1:02 p.m. that people had been driving by his house and yelling. A suspicious-looking vehicle reported on Sholan Circle at 2:31 p.m. turned out to belong to a company doing some work in the area for Verizon. While testing a Segway-type vehicle on loan to the Police Department at 3:55 p.m., Sergeant Babu fell off and sustained minor injuries. A caller reported hearing what sounded like fireworks in the area of West Bare Hill and Scott roads at 9:33 p.m. Police checked the area, but found nothing. The driver of a car parked at the overlook on Prospect Hill Road at 9:52 p.m. was asked to move along. A man called the station at 10:03 p.m. to report what he thought was an incident of domestic violence. Police responded, but found it was a raucous birthday party for someone who just turned 13. At 11:35 p.m. Harvard police assisted Bolton police in closing down a loud house party in that town..
Saturday, June 21: Police did not locate the black Lab dog reported wandering aimlessly near Route 2 at 10:25 a.m. At 4:28 p.m. a caller reported seeing three teens with a gun that had a scope on it in the vicinity of Stow Road and Murray Lane. Police determined that the gun was an Airsoft gun. Five teens who police discovered walking behind Bromfield at 10:37 p.m. told officers they were out walking because they were bored and there was nothing else to do. They were asked to move along.
Sunday, June 22: A Green Hill Road resident reported spotting two of the cows that have been on the run from a Groton farm for two weeks. He said the cows were headed toward the center of town. The farm was notified, but the elusive cows were gone when the owner arrived. The owner of a car parked illegally near the Thurston conservation land at 7:23 p.m. was located and asked to move the vehicle.
Monday, June 23: A car that was reported to have gone off Ayer Road at 10:53 a.m. was able to get back on the road without assistance. The owner of a home on Green Hill Road called police at 2 p.m. to ask for a check of his house. He was in California and had reason to believe someone may have broken into his home. Upon investigating, police found nothing amiss. At 10:36 p.m. a car failed to make a corner on Slough Road and rolled over. Harvard police, ambulance, and fire personnel responded, along with Boxborough police. The driver and two passengers were transported to Nashoba Valley Medical Center with minor injuries; the car was towed. A Harvard fire truck en route to the scene at 11:25 p.m. accidentally hit the Boxborough police cruiser, which sustained only minor damage.
