The Harvard School Committee continues its “innocent until proven guilty” standard of leadership in failing to take a principled stand on the appropriate future use of the Connect-Ed system. Apparently we’re going to have to wait to see if any violation of election laws has taken place before the School Committee can decide that the use of the Connect-Ed system for the distribution of “get out the vote” message is a bad idea. What the committee seems to lose sight of is that one of the school’s greatest assets is the goodwill and support of the community. Doesn’t the community have a right to expect that the School Committee will meet its fiduciary responsibility to maintain the assets entrusted in its care? It’s hard to see how voters will support greater future expenditures when the School Committee can’t maintain the school’s current assets.
