Brother of Harvard woman
Anthony J. Kowalcek, 97, of 8 Rogers Field Way in Clinton, formerly of 27 Forrest St., died Monday, May 12, 2008, in UMass Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, Worcester, after a brief illness. His wife of 60 years, Eleanor M. (Hutchins) Kowalcek, died in 1996.
Anthony was born and raised in Clinton, the son of Alexander and Anastatia (Krawczyk) Kowalcek, and attended local schools.
For more than 40 years, he worked at the former Wickwire Spencer Co. of Clinton, and later worked for the Commonwealth of Mass. at the Industrial School in Lancaster for 10 years before his retirement.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. An avid golfer, he played golf until he was 88 years old. He enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles, and was a Boston Red Sox fan.
He leaves two daughters: Elinor M. Sullivan of Clinton, and Karen J. Dyment and her husband David of Lancaster; a sister, Bertha Quinn of Harvard; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers: Stanley, Walter, and Joseph Kowalcek; and a sister, Stella McGovern.
Anthony’s funeral was held Thursday, May 15, 2008, from the McNally & Watson Funeral Home in Clinton, with a Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery in Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
