A home on Craggs Road and a home nearby on Depot Road were both burglarized in the late afternoon last Friday, March 28. A young Caucasian male wearing a hooded sweatshirt was reported in the neighborhood that day, knocking on doors and variously asking for help locating a lost dog, or soliciting used cell phones. While police believe he is a suspect in the case, they have no further identifying information at this time. Also unknown is whether the burglar worked alone, or with others.
Both homes were vacant at the time of the burglaries, according to the report. The first took place at a home on Craggs Road sometime before 4 p.m., when it was reported to police. The second took place on Depot Road sometime before 6:21 p.m. Police are still compiling a list of the objects taken, most of which appear to be small and easily transported items.
The burglaries are under investigation and Harvard police are asking anyone with information about this case to call the nonemergency line at 978-456-8276.
Officer Bill Castro reminds townspeople that wishful thinking will not safeguard a home, and that the best defenses against burglary are locked doors and secure windows. In addition, it is smart to bring in personal belongings from cars left outside overnight, he said.
