I would like to publicly thank the Bromfield students and Harvard residents that helped make our seventh annual “African Rhythms” benefit show a resounding success. We took in a little more than $3,000 Saturday night at the Cronin Auditorium; 100 percent of the proceeds from the show will help the Build a School in Africa Project build a fourth middle school next fall in the Kolondieba District of southern Mali, West Africa.
We had a terrific turnout and a very appreciative audience, and the following people deserve a lot of credit. First of all, thanks to Maria Vasta and Erica Adelson, the project coordinators, who helped distribute publicity, sold tickets, coordinated with the school, and lined up additional volunteers. Danny Eisenberg and Will Gunner did a terrific job with the stage lighting and sound, and Tyler Alderson was our emcee, announcing the different dances and pronouncing many unfamiliar African words with ease and aplomb.
B.J. Pessia and Julie Malchow provided the delicious home-baked cookies, which disappeared in a flash at intermission, and B.J. also sold merchandise from one of the “African Market” tables. Thanks are also due to the Bromfield School for the use of the auditorium and continued support of this worthy project.
