Take a moment to give thanks

March 14, 2008

Howdy, my name is Spc. Jonathan Farwell, and your paper recently ran an article about the IED ambush I was involved in.

First off, I would like to thank Molly Cutler for accurately depicting the ambush itself, as well as for the time she took to talk to me. As many know, Molly is a close family friend, and I actually received a care package from her family before I was hurt. Also, I would like to take a moment to thank the person who wrote the editorial about me (I’m not sure who it was).

Moving on, the message I really wanted to deliver is this:

  1. I’m much better looking than I am in that photo.
  2. Please use this article to remind people that war is a reality for all our service men and women, I know it was for myself and the other paratroopers of our battle company.

Also, remember that despite what most major news outlets may tell you, our work in Afghanistan is far from done, and the brave sacrifice of men like Timothy Vimoto (19), Juan Restrepo (21), Matthew Blaskowski (26), Mark Cannon (27), Larry Rougle (25, this was his sixth deployment in defense of our country), Joshua Brennan (22), and Hugo Mendoza (26) should not be forgotten.

I would encourage everyone to take a moment out of their day and silently give thanks for living in such a wonderful country, and to the brave soldiers who keep it free.
