I was impressed with Brian Stevens at last week’s School Committee candidate debate and in his recent newspaper profile. A teacher in the Andover public schools who has previously negotiated contracts, Brian has experience unique among the candidates that will be beneficial during the upcoming teacher contract negotiations. He stepped up to fill a vacancy in the School Committee several months ago without a preset agenda, just a wish to address any negative perceptions with logical reactions. He obviously weighs issues carefully, brings a desire to collaborate, and sees the impact today’s decisions will have on the future of the town. There’s no moving forward without collaboration, and there’s no collaboration without an open mind. So if voters haven’t already, they should take a second look at Brian Stevens, and they’ll see a path forward for the School Committee.
