Tuesday, February 26: Two cars driving on Still River Road shortly before 7:41 a.m. were involved in a collision. Neither driver was injured, but no further details on the accident were available at press time. At 10:49 a.m. the ambulance team took a woman from a doctor’s office on Ayer Road to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. A Stow woman driving on Littleton County Road toward Mass. Ave. was unable to stop at the stop sign due to icy conditions, and her car slid through the intersection into the path of a car driven by a woman from Lunenburg. Police arrived to help at 5:48 p.m., but found that no one had any personal injuries and neither car required towing. No citations were issued. Another car accident occurred at 6:15 p.m., but a written report was not finished at press time. At 9:03 p.m. the ambulance team took a Slough Road resident to Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
Wednesday, February 27: A resident came into the police station at 8:13 a.m. to get information about filing a restraining order. At 10:37 a.m. police helped a Westcott Road woman whose identity had been used by someone in New York to open an account with Verizon. Police were able to track the illegal activity to someone in that state, and handed off the information to Verizon’s department of investigation. The Fire Department was summoned to the police station after an employee accidentally set fire to his lunch, setting off the smoke alarm at 12:33 p.m. Firefighters cleared the kitchen of smoke using a large fan.
Thursday, February 28: A DPW employee concerned about taillights on in an unoccupied car on Ayer Road called dispatch to report the plate number at 5 a.m. The dispatcher then contacted the owner of the car. An Ayer Road homeowner called the station at 12:54 p.m. to report that his house had been hit by a paintball. He did not want an officer to investigate, he said, but was calling to put the incident on record. At 3:09 p.m. a resident called dispatch to report seeing a car with Florida license plates stopping at mailboxes in the neighborhood of Mass. Ave. and Slough Road. No contact was made with the driver, and Officer Castro noted that there have been no follow-up reports of either mailbox theft or vandalism.
Friday, February 29: Police took note of a car parked in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot at 11:30 p.m. and approached the driver, who had pulled off the road to refill his windshield wiper fluid.
Saturday, March 1: Harvard police gave backup help to the Ayer Police Department at 3:30 a.m., when police in that town were called to secure a building on Main Street that had an open door. Police gave an escort to a funeral procession making its way from the Littleton town line to the center of town at 9:48 a.m. A resident called to report two suspicious-looking men walking on Still River Depot Road at 12:20 p.m. On investigation, police found two men working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service checking for environmental compliance in the recreational area nearby. Two men out on snowmobiles just north of Old Mill Road encountered difficulty at 1:50 p.m., when they called police for help. For more details, see story.
Sunday and Monday, March 2-3: There was no significant activity recorded in the log.
Tuesday, March 4: At 6:56 a.m. police arrested Chad Adams, 25, of Hubbardston, after stopping his car on Ayer Road for a motor vehicle violation. Adams was found driving with a revoked license and was arrested, booked, and transported to Clinton District Court for arraignment. A UPS driver making a delivery on Ayer Road took note of a suspicious car parked off the side of the road at 10:15 a.m., when he called in the report to police. On investigation, police found a man sleeping in his car. He was driving with a suspended license and in the midst of a trip from the western part of the state to Boston. He was cited for driving with a suspended license and his car was towed from the scene. Police then took him to the Ayer rotary to arrange his own transportation for the remainder of his journey.
