On Tuesday, April 1, we will be casting our votes for a number of important positions on town boards. One of the most important of these will be for the School Committee. The committee will be facing numerous challenges over the next several years and we need some of the best minds in town to help solve those problems.
The issues start with maintaining the quality of the best school system in the commonwealth. And this must be done while dealing with myriad financial issues that arise from the need to minimize budget overrides, all while being in close communication with the citizens, the parents, the students, the faculty, the administration, and the selectmen in order to find the proper balance of solutions.
Keith Cheveralls is a candidate who has the knowledge, skills, and capabilities that the School Committee will require to complete this difficult task. His sons are graduates of the Harvard schools so he is well aware of the high level of quality found in the system. Keith’s wife, Maryann, is a teacher at the Harvard Elementary School, so he understands the faculty viewpoint better than most. His many years in key management positions with large banks provide him with the financial skills to help deal with the budget problems. Keith successfully managed groups of high level professionals. This required leadership and well-honed skills in negotiation and two-way communications. All of these experiences will be essential for dealing with the challenges he will face as a member of the School Committee.
Casting a vote for Keith will help ensure that we maintain the quality of the school system for the next generation of children. What could be more important than that?
