School Committee members establish policy for the schools, but, as we are often reminded, these policies and the manner in which they are set in many ways affect the whole town. I would hope to have School Committee members who are interested in setting policy with openness, while keeping the combined best interest of our town and schools at heart. That is why I believe Virginia Justicz should continue as School Committee member. She stepped up to fill a vacant position at a time when the committee was under fire for, among other things, not being open, and subsequently worked hard to communicate with residents and respond to concerns. A mother with two children currently in the school system, she is clearly not interested in pitting school against town, but in finding solutions that benefit both. She has demonstrated a good understanding of the position, seems committed to finding novel solutions to current problems, and undoubtedly will continue to do a stellar job establishing policies that affect every one of us.
Whether we have kids in the schools or not, I think we will all benefit if Virginia Justicz serves.
