Suspect detonates homemade explosive at Sportsmen’s Club

February 29, 2008

Both the Boxborough and Harvard police departments responded to a call at the Harvard Sportsmen’s Club at 250 Littleton County Road Friday afternoon, when a member of the club detonated a homemade explosive in the vicinity of other members, according to Boxborough police detective Robert Romilly Jr. (The sportsmen’s club is located in the Boxborough jurisdiction.)

“Crimes involving explosives are very serious,” Romilly said in a phone interview Wednesday. He said there is no known motive for the act at this time.

Although several members of the club were standing in the vicinity of the explosion, there were no injuries, and police were able to interview several eyewitnesses at the scene.

The incident is still under investigation by the Boxborough Police Department, Romilly said, but he indicated that formal charges will be filed within the next several days against the Westford man who is the suspect in the case. Anyone with more information is asked to call Romilly at the Boxborough Police Department at 978-263-2628.
