Sometime during the morning hours Friday, Dec. 28, a thief entered an unlocked home on Slough Road and took a laptop computer while the homeowner was away on an errand. Nothing else was disturbed or taken from the home, police noted in the report.
Interviewed Wednesday, Jan. 2, Harvard Police Chief Edward Denmark said that the scene was processed for fingerprints, but none were found. Although the theft is under active investigation, he said there are currently no suspects in the case. Thieves sometimes select Harvard as a target for home robbery because so many homeowners like to leave their doors unlocked, Denmark noted, adding “It’s always a good idea to keep your doors and windows locked at all times.”
The theft of another desktop computer was reported to dispatch early Saturday afternoon, when an employee of the Catalano Companies on Ayer Road arrived at work to find an open window at the rear of the building and noticed the missing equipment. Entry to the building was forced, Denmark said, by the thief—or thieves—prying open the window. The timing of the theft was most likely 8:30 p.m. the night before, when an employee working at home lost her connection with the server. Police were able to recover a fingerprint at the scene, and while it does not match any fingerprints in the state or federal database, Denmark said that the case is still under active investigation.
