Boys Team races past Littleton
The Bromfield boys indoor track team continued its successful season with a strong win over Littleton last Saturday at Shrewsbury High School. The Trojans took first in every event on the track, to win the meet by 42 points. Bromfield wrapped up the competition with a score of 64 points, while Littleton totaled 22 points.
Sophomore Tyler Papazian started Bromfield off on the right foot in the two-mile, establishing a strong lead over Littleton’s competitor early in the race to come out on top with a time of 11:22.3. In the one-mile run, Max Flaton and senior captain Alex Calderwood also finished well, crossing the line in first and second with times of 5:10.6 and 5:11.7, respectively.
Four Bromfield competitors scored points for Bromfield in the 600-meter run. Ben Waldman won the event, clocking a time of 1:34.7, missing the state qualifying time by less than half a second. Waldman has already qualified for the state meet in the mile run. Brendan Chen crossed the line next for Bromfield in third place, Connor MacKenzie took fourth, and Arjuna Hayes scored points for Bromfield with a fifth-place finish.
In the 1,000-meter run, Sam Dorward came in first with a personal best time of 1:50.9, good enough to qualify him for the state meet. Calderwood took second; and Flaton finished close behind in third.
The team’s success continued in the 300-meter run. Salim Al-Homsi came in first with a time of 43.2 seconds. Eighth-grader Thanny Alexander finished second, clocking a time of 43.5 seconds, and Papazian scored points again for Bromfield with a fourth-place finish.
Bromfield sprinters continued to bring in the points, as Al-Homsi, Alexander, and Andrew Ojemann took the top three places in the 55-meter dash. Nick Cleary won the 55-meter hurdles and Lewie Alfano placed third.
Both Bromfield relay teams took first in their events. The 4 x 220-yard relay team, made up of Cleary, Garret Kistler, Erik Lorenz-Kruk, and Ojeman, ran a strong race to clock a time of 1:55.4. For the 4 x 440-yard relay, Chen, Waldman, Hayes, and Dorward teamed up to finish the race in a time of 4:10.0.
Trojan women best Littleton, Lunenburg
The Bromfield girls indoor track team also ran well on Saturday, taking home a pair of wins against Littleton and Lunenburg. Bromfield scored 75 points to Littleton’s 16 points and edged past Lunenburg by scoring 50 points to Lunenburg’s 41 points.
The meet came down to the 4 x 440-yard relay. Lisa Reedich, Kat Long, Maddie Darden, and Mimi Narbonne teamed up to take a strong first-place finish, securing Bromfield’s win over Lunenburg.
