Recently I was saddened to learn of the death of my very dear friend and co-founder with me of the Harvard Town Band, Wilbur Kaslick.
He was a superb trombonist as well as an accomplished band conductor. During the band’s early years, when it had no funds, he served as its conductor gratis. He also helped me with the start-up of my “Wonderful Schmaltzy German Band,” and wrote several musical arrangements for it. The first public appearance of the Harvard Town Band was in the July Fourth parade in 1976. It was also the debut of the German band, with Wil playing trombone. Since then, both organizations have benefited greatly from his generous support and participation.My dear wife, Emily, and I have been close friends of Wilbur and his lovely wife, Dixie. Rest in peace, Wilbur.
