Independent candidate for Fifth District seat

September 7, 2007

Now that the primaries have passed and the candidates for the October 16th special election ballot have been determined, I’m writing this open letter to the voters of Harvard to ask for support and your vote. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to visit www.kurthayes.com to learn about me as a candidate for U.S. Congress.

Like 57 percent of the Harvard registered voters, I’m not a Republican or a Democrat. I’m an Independent. I’m not running on an ideology or party line, I’m running so you will be heard. You are the Independent voters and the Democrats and Republicans frustrated with the partisan bickering, extremists, and special interests that have taken over your parties.

If you’re ready to help start a new American “Independent” political revolution right here in the Massachusetts Fifth District, and if you’re ready to be represented by someone other than yet another candidate from Lowell, I ask for your vote. Of course, don’t just vote for me because I am an Independent or because I am not from Lowell. Compare me side-by-side with the other candidates on the issues, experience, and the trust you develop in me.

You have the rare opportunity to change the course and tone in Washington. If you elect Kurt Hayes, an Independent, to Congress, the rest of the country will notice. More Independents will be elected, and then we can really begin to change the tone in Washington and restore your hope that Congress can work for you.

During our debates and candidate forums, I found it interesting that both Niki Tsongas and Jim Ogonowski talked about the need to change the “tone” in Washington, and how “independent” they will be in Congress. The reality is that each will be obligated to their party, ideology, and special interests that got them elected … more of the same. I’m the only candidate who can deliver on the promise to be obligated only to you, the voters.

I look forward to the next six weeks leading up to the October 16th special election and the opportunity to earn your vote.

Kurt Hayes
