and Mary Niell of Quarry Lane announce the marriage of their son Cristopher to Denise Piscopo, daughter of Bob and Gail Piscopo of Bailey, Colorado. The wedding took place May 27 at the Pema Osel Ling Tibetan Buddhist Retreat Center near Watsonville, California. The guests, from as far away as Argentina and England, enjoyed the hospitality and great food of Pema Osel Ling for the Memorial Day weekend.
Denise’s attendants were Cris’s sisters, Becky and Lara. Cris’s friend Joe Dan Dunn officiated at the ceremony, which took place in the mountains among the redwoods, and included readings ranging from Thoreau to Homer Simpson. Instead of the traditional first dance, the couple hula-hooped together to the tune of “Just Can’t Get Enough” in an eight-foot hula hoop with flashing lights designed by Cris.
Cris graduated from Bromfield in 1991, and from Stanford University with a bachelor of science degree in physics in 1995. Following two years teaching physics at a private high school, and a year teaching English at a medical school in Japan, Cris returned to Stanford and earned his Ph.D. in neurobiology. His bride graduated from the University of Colorado and earned her Ph.D. in molecular biology from Harvard University. Cris and Denise are both doing post-doctoral research at the University of California San Francisco and will continue to reside near Golden Gate Park.
