The two family members at home escaped unharmed when a fast-moving blaze damaged their house at 40 Pinnacle Road Tuesday evening, August 7. Harvard and other area firefighters contained the fire within an hour of their arrival just minutes after the blaze was reported at 6:38 p.m.
Robyn Zajac and her 7-year-old daughter, Abigail, were home when the fire started in a home office. Flame, smoke, and water damaged most everything in the house, which is known as the caretaker’s cottage for the Oak Hill Observatory owned by Harvard University. Friends and neighbors, as well as classmates and teachers of the two Zajac children, helped salvage some of the family’s possessions after the fire.
Firefighters from Ayer, Boxborough, and Littleton assisted Harvard firefighters, EMTs, and police officers at the scene.
The state fire marshal’s office is investigating what may have caused the fire.
