Former longtime Harvard resident
Evelyn M. (Samson) Clark, 88, a former Harvard resident of more than two decades, died peacefully in her sleep July 26 in Oakland, California. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, she lived in Harvard from 1961 to 1983 and in Westport from 1983 to 2002.
She was a graduate of the Wardlaw Hartridge School, formerly Miss Hartridge’s School. With her husband, Bud Samson, she founded the Friends of the Westport Council on Aging in 1984, and she served both as president and as a member of the board for the group.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Suzanne C. Samson of Berkeley, California; her son, Carlos H Samson III of South Weymouth; her granddaughter, Laura Samson Hoachlander of Los Angeles, California; her stepdaughter, Betsy Clark Gemmecke of Eaton, New Hampshire; and her stepson, Hobart Clark of St. Pete Beach, Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 1, at the United Methodist Church, 1912 Main Road, Westport Point, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Friends of the Westport Council on Aging.
