Harvard turns 275 years old June 29, so it is fitting that just a few days later we start our Fourth of July celebration. Since there is no town 275th Committee, the Fourth of July Committee members and volunteers are hard at work to ensure we can celebrate Harvard’s 275th in style. Many thanks to our webmaster, Joan Eliyesil, and the town selectmen’s assistant, Valeska Ross, for keeping it updated and looking great. It changes weekly!
The fireworks and lawn party this year will be Saturday, June 30. Plan now to bring a blanket for 6 p.m., enjoy grilled food cooked up by the Harvard Ayer Rotary, enjoy the music of three town bands, and wait until dusk to see extra-spectacular fireworks to celebrate Harvard’s 275th birthday. Fourth of July Committee members will be selling T-shirts, including T-shirts from years past, glow necklaces, and dazzling light wands, with all proceeds directly funding the cost of the fireworks and the Fourth of July celebration.
The Fourth is a busy day, starting with the annual road race, parade, field events, food by the Harvard Lions, beach events, and, this year, Fruitlands Museum is open for picnics and hot-air balloon rides from 4 to 8 p.m.
We hope all Harvard residents will join us. This year, we have also decided to have a rain date of July 7 for all activities, beach, and Fruitlands events—with the exception of the road race (July 4, rain or shine).
