Girls lacrosse pounds Milford

April 27, 2007

Following a full week of rest and rejuvenation, the Bromfield girl’s lacrosse team breezed out of its second game of the season with a 15–0 win over Milford Monday, April 23. A solid team performance impressed the coaches and audience alike, proving a wide range of talent across the board.

Outstanding plays and movement were hallmarks of the game, pulling the Trojans to a 10–0 lead at the end of the first half. Sophomore Kristina Kronauer stood out with a solid goal, followed by a quick assist from behind the net to sophomore tri-captain Krystina Konop. Co-Coach Pam Alexander adds, “Kronauer made some beautiful cuts. She really shone through in this game, and she’ll be a key player for the rest of the season.”

A team only in its first year of playing, Milford struggled to bring the ball to Bromfield’s defending side of the field. However, when Milford broke through toward the Trojans’ defense, sophomore Hallie Conant and freshman Lauren Tower excelled in blocking shots, passing, and forcing Milford players to the outside.

In the second half of the game, Bromfield coaches mandated the use of the nondominant hand and an increase of passing down the field and around the offensive players. Junior Rosie Gatto placed two notable shots in the net with sophomore tri-captain Caitlin Nygren. After playing in the goalie position for the first half, eighth-grader Maggie Rooney stormed up the field with a breakaway and a goal toward the end of the game.

“It was a learning experience not only for the Milford girls, but also for us,” sophomore Kelsey Henderson commented. “It was good practice passing the ball around to everyone and communicating more.”

Other contributers to the score included eighth-grader Lindsey Hazel; sophomores Laura Nocka, Jenna Tomasello, and Chelsey Pon; and junior Emily Norris.
