Last week the Bromfield boys varsity tennis team hit the courts in anticipation of the new season—with shovels. The team was in good spirits despite the snow that greeted the beginning of its season. Although the Trojans lost four players from last year’s graduating class, there still seemed to be plenty of interest in the team. Senior Evan Clark was optimistic about the new season, he said, due to the large turnout at tryouts. The Trojans will turn to a strong senior class this year for leadership. The boys will try to improve upon their 9–10 record from last year.
Clark, a singles player, said he was “looking forward to the season with hopes for a strong showing from everyone.” Joining Clark at the singles positions will be seniors Drew Tracey and Patrick Coffey. The two sets of doubles positions have yet to be determined, but many players are qualified for the spots. They include senior Keeon Tabrizi, junior Kyle Wahlberg, sophomore Keiron Stoddart, freshmen Casey Clark and Ethan Randall, as well as eighth-grader James Bowling. Second-year coach Joe Feintuck leads the team, which starts off with a challenging match today as it hosts Westborough High School. Other tough matches will come against Groton-Dunstable Regional High School and Hopedale High School. The team wants to make it far into the postseason, Clark said, adding that he hoped there would be a lot of Bromfield fans watching the home matches.
