I have read with interest the letter writing of supporters for Ron Ricci and Scott Kimball.
Here is why I will vote for Tim Clark and Lucy Wallace for selectmen. I have high personal regard for Mr. Ricci and can appreciate Mr. Kimball’s fiscal conservatism. I respect them as individuals, but disagree with their agenda and philosophy.
Mr. Ricci has been on the opposite side of two serious and important issues to me. The first is his negative opinion of the new library as expressed in his letter to the Harvard Post March 19, 2004. The second is his leadership position on the For2B group, which, in the collective wisdom of the town, was voted down. It is hard for me to have confidence that Mr. Ricci’s fiscal position in the future will align with mine. The new library has exceeded any reservations Mr. Ricci voiced and the world has not stopped because 2B was defeated at the ballot box.
Mr. Kimball is unrealistic in his “just say no” and zero-based-budget philosophy. Mr. Kimball sells heating oil for a living, and I just wonder if Mr. Kimball has never raised the price of heating oil to his customers as his costs have increased. I also wonder why I, as a library trustee and senior citizen, was not on Mr. Kimball’s mailing list for his “vote no” letter sent under his title as a selectman.
Lucy Wallace has been steadfast and true. She takes the high road and listens to the people of Harvard. While Tim Clark is a reluctant second choice, I will vote for him as his intentions and heart are honest and sincere. I am hoping that Mr. Clark can talk less and reduce ideas to solutions.
I do applaud the fact that there are four candidates for these critical roles, all with high ideals and motivation to do what’s right for Harvard.
