Finance Committee vacancy

At Tuesday’s regularly scheduled Finance Committee meeting, Town Moderator Dave Westerling introduced Littleton Road resident Terry Mead to the committee as a potential appointee to fill the seat left empty by long-time Finance Committee member Paul Olsen, who resigned in December. Mead is a school-teacher, a Bromfield School graduate, and an active member of the Lion’s Club who knows a lot about Harvard, Westerling told the members.

Town beach septic system

Park and Recreation Commission Chairman Jim Lee gave the committee an update on the Town Beach septic system.  Although he has no hard estimates for the installation as yet, he said, he expects the cost will be in the $20,000 range, and that it should be physically possible to have the work completed before the opening of beach season, assuming the process goes smoothly.  He said that he should have cost estimates from three local contractors in about two weeks.

Municipal buildings

Selectman Lucy Wallace gave an update from the Town Center Planning Committee for reuse of Town Hall, Hildreth House, and the current library.  The committee is collecting and updating plans, identifying issues, and gathering input from the building inspector, employees, and, eventually, the public.  Her expectation is that there will be no opportunity to generate any income from the current library building in the 2008 fiscal year, she said, and she recommended that the building be moth-balled for now.
