Master carpenter, had many Harvard customers
Arthur G. West, 68, of Bolton, a master carpenter who did business in Harvard for many years, died at his home Monday, December 25, of lung cancer. He leaves his beloved wife of 38 years, Jean McCullough West.
Arthur was born in Fitchburg to the late Oiva G. and Ingrid A. Talvianen West Martin. He graduated from Maynard High School in 1955, after which he enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Devens. In 1969 he co-founded Nashoba Builders Inc. of Bolton.
Mr. West was a member of the First Parish of Bolton, served as assistant building inspector to the town for many years, and held many officer posts with the Lions Club of Bolton. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club of Maynard and a former member of the Bolton Boy Scout Troop 1 Committee, and served on the Bolton Fair Committee for many years.
Besides his wife, Arthur West is survived by a daughter, Cynthia L. Anderson, and her husband, Jeremy, of Fairfax, Vermont; and a son, Daniel G. West of Bolton, his companion, Stephanie Ashman, and her daughter, Lily, of Leominster. He also leaves two brothers, John L. West and his wife, Cynthia, of Mashpee, and James O. Martin and his wife, Cathleen, of Beaverton, Oregon; a granddaughter, Faith Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a cremation; then, May 5, a memorial service followed by a celebration of life will be held at the First Parish of Bolton, 673 Main Street, Bolton, from 1 to 4 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home of Clinton. Instead of flowers, those who care to do so may make memorial contributions to the Massachusetts Eye Research Fund, c/o Bolton Lions Club, 185 Main Street, Bolton, MA 01740, or to the Beth Israel Deaconess Lung Cancer Research Fund, Kirstein 159, 330 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
