Continuing its winning season, the Bromfield girls varsity soccer team tied with Quabbin, 2-2, and crushed Lunenburg twice at 5-1, and 4-0. The girls now stand with an overall record of 7-1-1.
On Wednesday, Sept. 26, Bromfield faced Quabbin at home. Trojan sophomores Olivia and Bella Kehoe each brought in one goal and assisted the other to level their team with Quabbin. Quabbin currently stands with a 3-1-1 league record.
On Thursday, Oct. 4, the Trojans faced the Lunenburg Blue Knights. Junior co-Captain Sam Schoenberg scored three goals, junior Olivia Noyes scored one, and Bella Kehoe scored another.
Bromfield tackled Lunenburg again five days later on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Junior Elena Franklin scored the first two goals, Bella Kehoe took the third, and Olivia Kehoe had the fourth. Throughout the game, both teams relied on their offensive side wing players to move the ball toward the goal and pass into the center. The Trojans took persistent shots the entire match, even from behind the penalty box. Bromfield defense communicated well, sending one player back to the goal and another to pressure her opponents on breakaways. Trojans also attempted directly scoring from corner kicks.
Schoenberg commented that the team stayed aggressive and focused on scoring, even working with the field’s muddy conditions. But, “We need to improve on…turning and passing faster…connecting passes better,” she said.
Schoenberg went on to outline her ambitions for the team, saying “I want us to win states. League champs, then district champs…then I think we can have a shot at states for sure.”
Bromfield currently has a league record of 4-0, first in the Mid-Wach D League.
The Trojans’ next game is Thursday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. against Hudson. Hudson has an overall record of 5-4-2.
Julia Deng is a Bromfield senior.
