Bromfield boys rack up two more soccer wins, beat Quabbin and Lunenburg

The Bromfield Trojans soundly defeated the Quabbin Panthers (2-4-1) 5-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 26, away, and the Lunenburg Blue Knights (4-3-0) 4-0 on Friday, Sept. 28, away.

During Wednesday’s game senior Nolan Granville notched two goals; senior Ryan Glazier, senior captain Charlie Pappas, and junior Will Armstrong each scored once. On Friday, freshman Zach Becker and senior captain Patrick Flanagan, Granville, and Armstrong all made goals. Both games were shutouts for Bromfield’s goalie, sophomore Ethan Fitzsimmons.

The Trojans continue to be undefeated, with a record of 7-0-0, earning them the first rank in the Mid-Wach D League.

Team captains Charlie Bardenheuer, Flanagan, and Pappas explained after the games that between outside training and a new coach, Alex Horne, the team has come into the new season strong.

Pappas said, “The whole dynamic of the team is different.” “We have a lot of new kids on the team so we are not as cohesive at the start of this year as we were last year, but we are slowly building up to it,” Flanagan explained.

Despite changes, the team does have strengths. “There hasn’t been much selfish play at all which is something that holds back a team, in my opinion. We are good at sharing the ball,” Bardenheuer said.

Pappas remarked that the Trojans felt strong playing against the teams they have played but the “second half of the season will be much more difficult” because they will be playing more difficult teams. He explained that they will be able to home in on what they need to work on.

Even when it comes to playing teams Bromfield has already defeated, Bardenheuer sees room for growth. “This year we want to progress from the beginning of the season to the end. A goal of ours is to play against these teams better than we have played them before,” he said.

The Trojans were scheduled to play Clinton (1-7-0) away, on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 3:30 p.m.; Lunenburg (4-3-0), home at Harvard Park, on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 4 p.m.; and Nashoba (1-5-0), home at Harvard Park, on Monday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m.

Fiona Morrison is a Bromfield junior.
