Police Log: September 10 to 16, 2024

In the past week, police made 12 motor vehicle stops, eight resulting in verbal warnings and four in written warnings or citations. Officers also made a well-being check, issued or renewed a firearm permit, and responded to three false burglar alarms.

Tuesday, Sept. 10
At 7:02 a.m. a jogger called 911 to say there was a bear in the middle of Stow Road; an officer searched the area, but the bear had gone. At 12:05 p.m. an officer accepted a gun that a resident wished to turn in. At 1:29 p.m. a caller reported a disheveled man trespassing at the old Oak Ridge Observatory on Pinnacle Road; the man was gone when police arrived. At 2:11 p.m. Gardner police asked a Harvard officer to contact a resident whose car had been involved in a hit-and-run collision in Gardner.

Wednesday, Sept. 11
At 10:44 a.m. a Brown Road resident called to report someone had filed a false insurance claim.

Thursday, Sept. 12
At 7:11 a.m. a 911 caller reported a crash on Route 2 eastbound; state police had jurisdiction. At 9:04 a.m. an officer noticed some illegal dumping and notified the Department of Public Works to clean it up. (The location was not specified.) At 1:51 p.m. someone called 911 to say a wire was down on Old Littleton Road; Charter Communications was notified. At 2:22 p.m. a 911 caller reported a raccoon stuck in a storm drain on Ayer Road; the animal could be heard shrieking in the background. The animal control officer was notified and responded. At 3:32 p.m. a caller said he had lost his wallet somewhere on the way from Ayer to Harvard.

Friday, Sept. 13
At 7:42 a.m. a Finn Road resident told police a car had been parked at a trail entrance for several days. At 9:48 a.m. someone on Ohlin Lane called with suspicions about a car in their driveway; the driver of the car was working at a house nearby and said he had turned around in the caller’s drive. At 10:45 a.m. a 911 caller reported two cars pulled off along the side of Route 2 westbound; state police were notified.

Saturday, Sept. 14
At 9:40 a.m. someone called 911 to say a car had hit a tree on Stow Road; police, firefighters, and the ambulance crew responded. One person refused ambulance transport; the car was towed. At 3:28 p.m. a caller reported a dead tree leaning on a power line along Ayer Road; National Grid was notified and agreed to come out, but said the situation was not a top priority.

Sunday, Sept. 15
At 12:53 p.m. Ayer police requested backup for a domestic conflict between siblings at a Pingry Way home; no weapons were involved. At 5:41 p.m. there was another report of trespassing at the observatory on Pinnacle Road; police told a group of people to leave the property.

Monday, Sept. 16
At 8:41 a.m. an officer noticed a wire hanging to the ground along Pond Road; Charter Communications was notified. At 10:14 a.m. New Hampshire state police asked Harvard police to help make sure a local resident took their medication. At 10:45 a.m. an Oak Hill Road resident reported seeing a coyote that might be injured; the animal control officer said the state policy was not to intervene unless the animal appeared rabid. At 12:04 p.m. a Bolton Road resident asked to speak with the animal control officer about a missing cat. At 8:22 p.m. a Glenview Drive resident called 911, saying a car had pulled into their driveway, and its driver shut off the lights. The resident turned some lights on inside the house, and the car left. Police checked the area but found nothing amiss.
