The Bromfield Trojans shut out the No. 7 seed Abington Green Waves 1-0 in double overtime Wednesday evening, Nov. 12, to advance to the semifinals of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 4 boys soccer state championship. The game was played under the lights of Norton Field at Ayer Shirley Regional High School with temperatures in the mid-40 degrees.
The winning goal was scored by sophomore Isaac Balicky after 97 minutes of play on a throw-in from Bromfield’s right lane at Abington’s 10-yard line. It was the team’s 17th shutout and 18th win of the season.
After celebrating their victory and posing with their MIAA Final 4 banner for fan photos, the No. 2 seed Trojans (18-1-2) headed home with thoughts of the semifinal match against No. 6 seed Westport (19-0-2) set for 7 p.m., Nov. 17, at Victory Field in Watertown. The winner will advance to the state finals.
