Lunch with Eldridge
Senator Jamie Eldridge will meet with seniors at Hildreth House Friday, March 19, from 11 a.m. to noon. A light lunch will be served. Call to sign up for this free event.
Indian Hill music program comes to Hildreth House
The Council on Aging has teamed up with the Indian Hill Music School to offer a free music program at Hildreth House, with help from a grant from the Harvard Cultural Council. The program will feature professional vocalist Mary Crowe and jazz pianist Evelyn Harris, who will perform songs from various decades at each session. Following each performance seniors will have an opportunity to share memories evoked by the “music of their lives.” The programs will be offered at Hildreth House from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Monday mornings, March 29, April 5, and April 12. The COA asks that people sign up in advance by called the COA office at 978-456-4120.
Need help with odd jobs?
Local college student Derek Thurston will be available during the months of March and April to help people with a variety of small projects, including moving furniture, changing high light bulbs, picking up sticks in the yard, hauling wood, doing small painting projects, and more. To schedule some of his time, call him at 978-270-2000.
On the road with COA

- Wednesday, March 17: The COA invites trip-goers to dress in green as they head to White’s of Westport for a St. Patrick’s Day luncheon and show. Lunch, served family style, will include corned beef and cabbage, chicken, roast turkey, and pot roast. Trooper Dan, the Massachusetts state trooper known for his singing of the National Anthem at Fenway Park and other locations, will lead traditional Irish music and will encourage guests to sing along. This trip will leave Hildreth House at 9:30 a.m. and return by 5 p.m. Cost is $30 per person, payable in advance.
- Friday, March 26: The COA has planned a trip to the Boston Flower and Garden Show to tour more than 30 gardens that make up Boston’s largest horticultural happening. Lunch will be at the No Name Restaurant on the waterfront. The group will head back to Harvard by 3:30 p.m. Cost is $20 plus lunch.
- Wednesday, April 14: The COA has organized a trip to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem to tour the exhibit Fiery Pool: The Maya and the Mythic Sea. More than 90 works, many never before seen, offer new insights into the Maya culture. After the tour, trip-goers will have lunch at a local restaurant. The group will leave Hildreth House at 8:30 a.m. and return by 4 p.m. Cost is $20 plus lunch.
